The Dunbar Trades Association have always promoted Dunbar as a place to visit, stay, eat and shop both nationally and internationally. Last weekend member businesses took our new Gazebo for a test drive at Sci Fest, showcasing to members the great array of things available locally. With our newly published Discover Dunbar brochures we spent time speaking to locals and visitors to the town about the exciting year ahead.
With brochures about Dunbar, walking, cycling and east Lothian life magazines there was plenty on offer to keep people focussed on Dunbar as the place to be. We had a display of John Muir Way Merchandise and posters (look out in the local shops for leaflets about the Opening Ceremony soon) which attracted huge interest, showing the excitement for the Flagship Homecoming Scotland 2014 event building.
As part of Sci Fest DTA members took part in a popular competition the Molecule hunt, featuring a different molecule in a number of different outlets around town. The prizes were donated by the members of the DTA and we had the hamper and second/third place prizes on display.
As part of the event we had a chocolate competition which was organised and prize donated by Graze Coffee & Chocolate House, involved guessing the number of chocolate buttons in a jar, but with the added incentive of a free taste of the wonderful chocolate it generated a huge volume of browsers to the gazebo.
With a wide variety of businesses taking part it gave a broad chance of promotion from high street retail, food providers, accommodation providers and Internet traders. This shows the variety and choice available locally from locally owned businesses.
We hope to have a presence at more local and county events throughout 2014, helping to keep Dunbar at the forefront of people’s minds as the place to come.
