Small Business Showcase - PJ Design & East Lothian Life

In June 1986, Pauline Jaffray established PJ Design in Dunbar, a company specialising in Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising and Design aimed at the small to medium sized business.

Pauline’s prior experience had her firmly established with a number of blue chip, high profile companies but her home county of East Lothian was expanding with more and more small, medium enterprises.

Pauline never forgot her grassroots and the support she received from local businesses and the community at large was tremendous.  ‘I will never forget the support, encouragement and kindness afforded me by the local community’ commented Pauline and this support worked two fold, as the advice given and the work undertaken benefited all those concerned, including the local economy.

One childhood ambition Pauline always had was the establishment of a quality, county magazine and in the winter of 1989, the publication East Lothian Life was launched.  A magazine described as the Scottish Field of East Lothian and which has the community of East Lothian at its heart.

Working with and putting something back in to the community has always been of great importance to Pauline Jaffray and what better way to celebrate this great county of ours than with the written word.  East Lothian Life captures the very essence of the county in its people, faces, pastimes and pursuits.  2014 sees the celebration of 25 years of publishing and East Lothian Life is the only magazine dedicated to East Lothian and enjoys a readership for out with the boundaries of the county.

During the 27 years of PJ Design, Pauline has been involved in numerous community and business projects and has met such a wonderful diverse range of people and learned so much.  Her belief in the county and its people has shone through and the Midlothian and East Lothian Chamber of Commerce duly acknowledged this commitment and involvement at their awards ceremony held at Queen Margaret University.

Pauline received a local Business Hero Award, awarded to the champions of local business who have individually made a difference to both the business and local community.  Pauline was delighted to accept the award and commented ‘I have been very fortunate working with and living in such a remarkable diverse county with such a supportive and enterprising population.’ East Lothian Life has also received three Highly Commended awards in 2009, 2010, 2012 by the prestigious PPA Scottish Magazines ‘Best Small Publishing Company’ and has been shortlisted for the 2013 PPA awards.
