Dunbar Writers meet every 2nd Thursday at 7.30 in the Bleachingfield Centre.
Meeting dates are posted on the Tyne & Esk website: http://tyne-esk-writers.com/groups/dunbar
We’re a friendly and open group - writers of all types of literature and all levels of experience are welcomed. We’ve been going for more than 10 years. We are primarily a self-support group, our aim being to help each other improve and develop our writing. The Group is a member of Tyne & Esk Writers, the umbrella group for 8 writers’ groups in Midlothian and East Lothian. Membership of Tyne & Esk is £20 per annum, but you’re welcome to come along to a couple of meetings free first, to get to know us before you decide whether or not to join us.
The benefits of membership include the use of venues, the support of East Lothian Library Service, the services of a Creative Writing Fellow, access to the Publication Support scheme and others as given on the website. Locally, we regularly organise and take part in public readings in Dunbar and elsewhere. Meetings usually start with an exchange of news and information, then we have a short writing exercise. We may have a biography spot, where one of our members talks about a writer they enjoy, and we have a read-round where we offer constructive criticism of each others’ work in a positive atmosphere. We then usually suggest a ‘prompt’ for the next meeting.
